Wonka’s Downfall

downfall blu-ray0xThis happened a few months ago, but I’m just now getting around to complaining about it. You’ll notice my Wonka’s Downfall video now has advertising on it. Not by any choice of mine! Mainly because it would be illegal, to be honest. But whatever, I made a thing and I’d rather have people see it than get money from it, it was not a profit-making project. A few weeks later I got a message from YouTube that Warner Brothers had filed some sort of claim to it, since they own the rights to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and there was now advertising running on it and they would get the profits (joke’s on them, only 100 views! :P ).

This is intensely irritating to me. The visual part of this is just as important as the audio (probably moreso), but do any of the production companies responsible for Downfall get any share of the profits? I strongly suspect they do not. And why is that? Probably because none of them have the power to make legal threats like Time Warner does. But, I guess, that’s nothing new. >< Just needed to vent a bit.

The creationist fucktards are bringing the battle into Colorado. Are we gonna let them sneak this shit through?

 

Just a few days ago, a bill was introduced into my home state’s legislature that would allow teachers “to miseducate students about evolution, whether by teaching creationism as a scientifically credible alternative or merely by misrepresenting evolution as scientifically controversial.

 

The antiscience bill HB 13-1089 is one of the Orwellian-named “Academic Freedom” thrusts by creationists, where legislators claim they just want teachers to have freedom about what they can teach, but is in fact a clear and obvious attack on scientific fields that disagree with the beliefs of the conservative lawmakers.

 

HELL NO. The list of Reps sitting on the House Committees on Education and Appropriations is at the above link. If you don’t know what District you live in, the Colorado District Map is here.

Everyone in Colorado with a Rep sitting on this committee – write them. Email is good, snail mail is even better. Let them know we enjoy living in the NOT dark ages.

I still have so many things to get out, and yet so little time to do it. The holidays are actually worse, because even though I have a lot of time freed up from my job, I have to spend all that plus more on social functions. The rate of posting will slow down for a bit. :(

In the meantime, I updated the Fiction page, as the latest 3-Minute Fiction contest is over and I can post my entry.

New Tab – (My) Fiction

If you look up, there’s a new tab up there next to Videos. I don’t really write, but it is something I’d like to start doing more often, so I figured I’d start putting my stuff up. Right now all that’s there is some submissions to flash-fiction contests. There’s a half-dozen stories of varying quality, each one readable in under 4 minutes.
